A Small Site Tweak to the Matchups Page

Tweaks 1

Got an email today:

Dear IAFD,

I’m trying to ID the source of a scene featuring Leslie Taylor and a female named Caroline . Your page of pairings lists 3 females with that name , and 6 movies, none of which matches the scene I have on file.

I suspect my main problem is that most performers have used more than one name … While IAFD lists only a matching performer’s ”principal” name on that matchups page , the file provider may have used one of the AKAs .

Currently my alternative is to search either ALL the headshots (there are 646 , and I find many females ”don’t look much like” their headshots) , or LOTS of movies (in this case , since I’m looking at a file from 2002 , I may only have to check 280 of the 807 movies in his list , released in 2002 or earlier). Either way isn’t ”fun” … and , in fact , neither is guaranteed to work .

If IAFD printed out (on the matchups page) all AKA names along with the “principal” name , that would make the ID task a lot easier . But , that might
also upset the appearance of the matchups page, especially for performers that have a lot of AKA.s .

[…]

At present , I have no idea if either of these changes could easily be made , or would be of interest to other IAFD visitors . And there may be something else you have in mind that could also help … (I have other scenes to ID , too).

So, it took all of 30 seconds to add the performer AKA to the MatchUps page and tweak the CSS to make it look pretty, so that’s what we did.

Enjoy.

Congrats to the XBiz Award Winners!

2Well, we’re a little sad. Another year goes by, and it’s merely an honor to be nominated… FreeOnes took the Adult Site of the Year: Fan Site award for the whatever year running (but who’s counting?). Along with them, a bunch of other people won awards, here they are. It’s almost 4 AM on the East Coast, so I’m calling it a night with only the most minimal data analysis…

On the performer side, the big winners were Carter Cruise and James Deen who both won 3 awards.

The big winner was Eli Cross’ Wetwork (2014) which won SEVEN awards; Not Jersey Boys XXX: A Porn Musical (2014) and Second Chances (2014) were tied for second-most honored with 4 wins apiece.

Xbiz2015Nom

[Boilerplate press release follows]

IAFD.com  has been named an official finalist nominee for the adult industry’s awards event of the year, the 2015 XBIZ Awards, presented by Fleshlight.

We’ve received a nomination in the award category Adult Site of the Year – Fan Site

“Yay us!” said webmaster Jeff Vanzetti.  “We’re among some really great sites and it’s nice to be thought of in the same breath as our fellow nominees.”

Scheduled for Jan. 15 in Los Angeles, adult film superstar James Deen is set to host the industry’s largest gala at a cutting-edge venue linked to JW Marriott and The Ritz-Carlton at downtown Los Angeles entertainment complex L.A. Live.

About IAFD

The Internet Adult Film Database has been tracking bibliographic info on adult movies at its current home since 1999. With information on over 171,000 movies from 1959 through present, the IAFD is the most comprehensive database of its kind. Maintenance is provided by a dozen volunteer editors doing their own research assisted by a variety of sources – industry professionals, fellow researchers and everyday porn fans. Along with movie listings, IAFD has a price search engine and links to over 113,000 movie reviews from the leading review sites on the Net.

IAFD Welcomes Two New Review Sites!

Welcome New Review Partners!

It’s been a while since we added new review partners, and over the past couple months, we’ve added two.

The first, Porn Valley Vantage, has been with us for a few months now, but I was remiss in celebrating our partnership when it first began  Dr. Chauntelle writes a great blog about sexuality and how it plays a part in adult movies (and how adult movies can play a part in our sexuality) – or, as she puts it, Critical Commentary on Adult Production.

Her mission statement shines a light on the complex nature of porn, and we agree that porn is more than just the old in and out.

Everyone has an opinion about porn — it’s either good or bad, exploitative or liberating; it’s super hott, or it’s just plain nasty… when, in actuality, it’s more complicated than any one of these “either/or”s.

Just like real life, porn is multi-dimensional and complex, and every discrete element is also part of a wider socio-cultural past, present, and future. PVVOnline/Porn Valley Vantage engages these complexities, connecting the dots and offering readers a unique take on the adult industry.

For as long as we’ve been online, we’ve been interested in these complexities.  Porn is awesome to whack off to, but there’s also a larger issue surrounding it which we also find interesting to ponder.

The second site is brand new to us, Feminist Porn Reviews.  What drew me to them was their sensible reviews and their mission statement which shares a lot of POV with ours, and some overlap with Dr. Chauntelle:

Like many people, we here at FemPorn have a love-hate relationship with porn. We love it because we love sex. But we hate it because so much porn is openly and even proudly misogynistic. And even when it isn’t that bad, too much porn is completely devoid of genuine female pleasure and totally fails to include or even acknowledge a feminine perspective on sex. But porn doesn’t have to be that way, and not all porn is that way. So we love the fact that there is feminist porn that we can love and not hate, and we want to share what we have discovered with you.

We know that’s not everyone’s cup o’ tea, but we trust when you see their name pop up on the list of available reviews, you’ll act accordingly.

We’ve got links to just under 114,000 reviews on the site (113, 907 to be exact; but that number’s going up every day!) and are happy that these two sites are adding to our choir of critics.

If you have a review site you’d like us to consider linking to, drop us a note at [email protected]
