XBiz Awards Nominations 2015: An Introduction and Errata

Xbiz 15 Cat- Directing (1)

So begins awards season, and so begins our coverage of same with our annotated lists of nominees; annotated by virtue of we link to the people and titles that have garnered nominations this season.

In reviewing these lists, we are shocked by their scope  and magnitude, and we also manage to find some errors along the way. Statistically speaking, the percentage is infetesimal – but to our data-obsessed minds, they’re still erroneous.

So, the errata:

Best Scene, Couples Themed Release, Siri and Steven St. Croix get the nod for Rekindling the Flame when that scene does not actually exist and St. Croix isn’t in the movie.  Siri is paired with Richie Calhoun.

siri_richie

Best Scene, Feature Movie: Stoya and Rocco get the nod for carnal capering in Voracious Season Two, Vol 4 … but their scene was actually in Volume 3.

So really, two errors in 800+ nominations isn’t so bad… unless you’re Richie Calhoun, I guess….

And now some stats.  Assuming the database summed things correctly, the most honored performers are:

  1. James Deen, 9 noms
  2. Xander Corvus, 9 noms
  3. Carter Cruise, 7 noms
  4. Steven St. Croix, 6 noms
  5. Tommy Gunn, 6 noms
  6. Tommy Pistol, 6 noms
  7. Seth Gamble, 5 noms
  8. Tyler Nixon, 5 noms
  9. Skin Diamond, 5 noms
  10. Annika Albrite, 5 noms

And the movies leading the pack are:

  1. Wetwork, 14 noms
  2. Apocalypse X, 13 noms
  3. Second Chances, 12 noms
  4. Aftermath, 12 noms
  5. Voracious: Season Two, Volume Four, 11 noms
  6. Killers, 10 noms
  7. American Hustle XXX: A Parody, 10 noms
  8. Gardener, 9 noms
  9. Not Jersey Boys XXX: A Porn Musical, 9 noms
  10. Snow White XXX: An Axel Braun Parody, 8 noms
  11. Sexual Liberation Of Anna Lee, 8 noms

We’ll be rolling out a half dozen or so posts over the next couple hours (so as to not flood y’all) breaking things down.

Exxxotica New Jersey 2014

Exxxotica: NJ

Well it took more than a week to decompress and sort through the photos but here’s the obligatory report on my seventh Exxxotica, the first in New Jersey that I attended. It was by far the busiest one which surprised me considering the limited accessibility of the location. The New Jersey Convention Center & Expo is in an industrial park area with limited public transit and no retail within a mile radius. You pretty much have to have a car to attend and stay around unlike Exxxoticas Chicago and Florida. I guess having a city of nine million nearby plus the megalopolis known as the East Coast helps with the attendance.

Friday was busy with the ladies free promotion and so was Saturday. If you wanted to see the ladies without lines, then you go Sunday. I saw a lot of bright and perky friends which I attributed to the later start time of the show (1pm). They were happy to have their photos taken (with one exception), but if you wanted a photo with them then it cost you. I also noticed photobooths for the first time which were a cute novel idea.

Belle Knox Onyx Muse Stoya

Some thoughts & observations:

  • Arrangement Finders booth was the busiest booth with their placement in the front of the convention, an emcee, and a photobooth. I think the only requirement to take photos with the girls was to signup. Onyx Muse was a delight and presumed I didn’t need to sign up and I didn’t understand how backhanded this was until I found out later that it was  site for sugar daddies and sugar babies. Heh. I didn’t catch her being naughty like Anime Nut did in Chicago but still heard her ordering the guys to, “pull my hair” & “grab my boobs” for their photos. Oh Onyx. Not only are you on the Reggie Cleveland porn roster with your name, you are also now a favourite of mine.
  • Belle Knox was the first person I saw. I found her shy and outwardly very young. I felt awkward and old asking her about school, and she seemed uncomfortable answering.
  • Stoya did not want many photos taken of her outside of the photobooth. At first I was puzzled since I had taken many over the years but I caught her blinking multiple times after each flash that I deduced the hundreds/thousands of strobes that go off a day hurt her eyes. Not only at the signings but when she goes out to dinner. One night, we were at the same restaurant and I noted that the wait staff was more busy asking her for photo ops instead of actually serving her and prefacing the request with, “I’m your biggest fan!”. She told me about a restaurant owner in Japan who met his wife at a Tomoyasu Hotei concert and decorated his restaurant with Hotei memorabilia from the last 20 or 30 years but never described himself as Hotei’s biggest fan. The moral I got then was to turn off the flash with Stoya and always squeal “I’m your biggest fan!” when I see her.
  • Mick Blue told me a story about how he once got cock blocked by a cow in the Alps. You have to hear it directly from him. I don’t remember how this conversation came about but I remember telling him about cow tipping as a kid, which he thought was a dumb idea.
  • Phoenix Marie was dressed as a panda on Sunday. A PANDA! What could be better than a panda until  I found out there was a second panda with Jada Stevens‘s booty. TWO PANDAS!

Words With Slutty Friends featuring Casey Calvert

WWSF Casey Calvert

Word Association is commonly used in therapy as a means of creating a psychiatric evaluation of someone. Participants are instructed to just respond to a given word spontaneously with the first word, thing, or phrase that comes to mind. Some experts in the field of psychology believe that the responses can reveal things about the subconscious mind of an individual.

So, what is in the subconscious mind of a dirty little slut? IAFD.com wanted to know, so to help all you pud pullers out there better understand how your favorite pornstars really think and feel, we asked them for you. And we couldn’t think of a more a more fitting subject to start with than the reigning Spank Bank Award winner for ‘Dirty Little Slut of the Year’ Casey Calvert.

IAFD Welcomes Two New Review Sites!

Welcome New Review Partners!

It’s been a while since we added new review partners, and over the past couple months, we’ve added two.

The first, Porn Valley Vantage, has been with us for a few months now, but I was remiss in celebrating our partnership when it first began  Dr. Chauntelle writes a great blog about sexuality and how it plays a part in adult movies (and how adult movies can play a part in our sexuality) – or, as she puts it, Critical Commentary on Adult Production.

Her mission statement shines a light on the complex nature of porn, and we agree that porn is more than just the old in and out.

Everyone has an opinion about porn — it’s either good or bad, exploitative or liberating; it’s super hott, or it’s just plain nasty… when, in actuality, it’s more complicated than any one of these “either/or”s.

Just like real life, porn is multi-dimensional and complex, and every discrete element is also part of a wider socio-cultural past, present, and future. PVVOnline/Porn Valley Vantage engages these complexities, connecting the dots and offering readers a unique take on the adult industry.

For as long as we’ve been online, we’ve been interested in these complexities.  Porn is awesome to whack off to, but there’s also a larger issue surrounding it which we also find interesting to ponder.

The second site is brand new to us, Feminist Porn Reviews.  What drew me to them was their sensible reviews and their mission statement which shares a lot of POV with ours, and some overlap with Dr. Chauntelle:

Like many people, we here at FemPorn have a love-hate relationship with porn. We love it because we love sex. But we hate it because so much porn is openly and even proudly misogynistic. And even when it isn’t that bad, too much porn is completely devoid of genuine female pleasure and totally fails to include or even acknowledge a feminine perspective on sex. But porn doesn’t have to be that way, and not all porn is that way. So we love the fact that there is feminist porn that we can love and not hate, and we want to share what we have discovered with you.

We know that’s not everyone’s cup o’ tea, but we trust when you see their name pop up on the list of available reviews, you’ll act accordingly.

We’ve got links to just under 114,000 reviews on the site (113, 907 to be exact; but that number’s going up every day!) and are happy that these two sites are adding to our choir of critics.

If you have a review site you’d like us to consider linking to, drop us a note at iafd@iafd.com
